Getting started

What do I need to sign up?

A username, an email address and a password. There is no email confirmation step — you can log in immediately after registering.

What does the free trial cost?

Nothing, and we don't ask for a card. A trial runs for 14 days and gives you 100 MB of storage. You enter payment details for the first time when you decide to subscribe — never before.

I forgot my password. What now?

A self-service reset is on the roadmap but not built yet. Until then, contact info@idof.life — and please keep your password somewhere safe.

Files and versions

Which files can I preview in the browser?

Images. Other types — PDF, video, text, office documents — show an icon and can be downloaded. Wider previews are something we want, but they aren't promised for a date.

How do versions work?

Upload a file with the same name and a new version is created automatically; the old one stays. You can add a short change note, and download or delete individual versions. If the content is identical, no duplicate is stored. There is no one-click "restore this old version" — you download it instead.

What happens when I delete a file?

It's gone — we ask for confirmation first. A wastebasket with restore is on the roadmap; until it ships, treat deletion as final.

Sharing

How do public links work?

A public link lets anyone download the file, no account needed. You choose an expiry date or leave it open-ended, and you can revoke it at any time — after that, the link leads nowhere. You can also generate a fresh one.

How do I share with a specific person?

Either directly to their username, or with a one-time invite link that must carry an expiry date. You pick viewer or editor rights and can add a message. They accept or decline under "Received invites"; you keep an overview — and the power to revoke — under "Shared by me".

Does ID of Life email the people I share with?

No. You pass the link on yourself, through whichever channel you trust. Automatic notifications are on the roadmap — until then, nothing leaves your hands without you.

Account and storage

Where are my files stored?

On a private, decentralised storage network that ID of Life operates in Europe — not with a public cloud provider. Files are content-addressed: identical content is stored exactly once.

What are replicas?

Extra copies of your files spread across the network for resilience. Coming soon: the setting is visible in your storage options but inactive, and every file is stored once today.

What happens if I don't subscribe after the trial?

Your account switches to read mode: you can still sign in, download everything and delete what you no longer want, but you cannot upload. That lasts 30 days. If you have not subscribed by then, the account and its files are deleted. Subscribing at any point during those 30 days brings everything straight back.

What happens to my files if I cancel a paid plan?

Nothing sudden. You keep full access until the end of the period you have paid for. After that the account is in read mode for 30 days — download and delete still work — and is then locked. We keep your files for five more months in case you come back, and delete them afterwards. Write to info@idof.life at any point during those months and we will unlock the account.

What if a payment fails?

Your card is retried for a while, and during that time you can sign in and download but not upload. If it is never paid, the account is locked. We do not delete anything in that situation — an open invoice is settled between people, not by deleting somebody's files.

Are my files encrypted?

Not yet. You will find an "encrypt by default" setting in your storage options, but it is marked coming soon and does nothing today. Your files are protected by our closed European network and by access control in the application — not by a key that only you hold. We won't state guarantees or certifications here that no one has audited; when that changes, this answer changes with it.
